Originally this song started as observing friends in unhealthy relationships practicing kink-type activities without examination—without awareness of consent, negotiation, meaning, and safety. It was meant to say there is a better way. However, it can be very easy for people within the BDSM community to think they have all the answers because they practice with intention—when the truth is that abuse and unhealthy relationships exist here in equal amounts. Over the course of writing, the meaning became a bit more tongue in cheek. It became a conversation between someone with no exposure to the lifestyle questioning their friend in the lifestyle—curios, in disbelief, asking a million questions.
lyrics
does role-play make more sense?
a place for savages
does role-play make more sense?
a place for day dreaming kids
does role-play make more sense?
they got a thing for tape, scrapes and kisses
does role-play make more sense?
if you are wondering the answer is yes
if you are wondering the answer’s yes
did they drive out to the woods? yes
with one of them in the trunk? yes
did I see a roll of saran wrap? yes
is that like a romantic fucked up picnic? yes
do you think that metal necklace is a? yes
are those rope marks across their arms from? yes
did he just refer to her as a? yes
and you say they do this 24 seven? yes
does role-play make more sense?
if you are wondering the answer is yes
if you are wondering the answer’s yes
if you are wondering the answer is yes
fake fights, fake arguments, real bruises
